Our Story

After the 2nd World War, Charles and Phyllis Sinclair moved to Thanet from London. In their flat above their fish and chip shop, they started winding coils. As the business began to grow, they moved to different premises within Thanet.

In 1963 their son, Norman joined the business and C.J. Sinclair Ltd was formed.

Our History

1946

Charles and Phyllis Sinclair moved to Thanet from London. In their flat above their fish and chip shop, they started winding coils. As the business began to grow, they moved to different premises within Thanet.

1963

Charles and Phyllis' son, Norman joined the business and C.J. Sinclair Ltd was formed.

1964

CJ Sinclair began repairing power tools shortly after norman joined starting with the then british made Wolf power tools who we later became a warranty service agent for Wolf.

1976

We bought the premises in St Peters.

early 1980's

Wolf was purchased by Kango tools ltd, a very well known brand in the tool industry. We had already been repairing Kango tools since the late 60's.

1988

Normans son-in-law, Mark joined and in 1997, Normans eldest daughter, Karen [also Marks wife] joined. The image on the right shows mark and norman in 1989 using the companies first computer to view technical diagrams.

early 1990's

WIn the early 90's atlas copco purchased Kango tools ltd, this led to us becoming a service agent for Atlas copco.

1995

Atlas copco Aquired milwaukee and operated as Atlas copco, Aeg and Milwaukee. This led to us being a warranty service agent for Milwaukee and Aeg.

early 1990's

In 2005 Mark trained as an electrician and started carrying out various work including domestic and commercial projects. Also in 2005 both Milwaukee and AEG were purchased by a company called Techtronic industries (TTI) This lead to the continual rapid growth of Milwaukee and they are now a true market leader in the industry. TTI also already owned a power tool / garden equipment brand called Ryobi, this led to us becoming a repair agent for Ryobi and also becoming the main spares supplier for Ryobi / Milwaukee in the uk.

2011

Karen and Marks son, James joined the company as an apprentice electrician. James is the fourth generation to join the company.

2012

In 2012 Milwaukee launched their Fuel (brushless) line of cordless power tools. This new range really shook the market and helped towards the rapid growth of Milwaukee over the years.

2013

We moved to larger premises. We now have a 5000 sq ft purpose built, state of the art workshop, with full training facilities. There is ample parking for customers. Since moving to our new premises we have continued to grow. Over the years we have become warranty agents for many other power tool companies such as Makita, Hikoki (Hitachi), Fein, Trend, Chicago Pneumatic (CP)

2015

we hosted our first tool show with milwaukee, we have since tried to run at least 1 show a year but covid has put a stop to this in recent years.

2020

Due to growth in the sales side of the company, we decided to build a larger shop within our building, this has evolved over the last 2 years and now we have a fantastic range of power tools, hand tools, accessories and ppe. In december 2020 we announced the launch of our new website "cjspares" to allow customers a more streamlined of ordering spare parts online. We are updating / adding products daily with the aim of being a one stop shop for all power tool spare parts.

2022

Karen Mark and James run the business, although Norman retired in 2020 at the age of 76 he is still on hand for help/experience on the motor side of the business. This year we are set to repair in excess of 40,000 machines.
